Am I eligible to take this course?

You are eligible if you received a civil traffic citation in Arizona, have not taken a defensive driving course in the past 12 months from your violation date, have a valid Arizona or out-of-state driver's license, were not involved in an accident involving injury or death related to this citation, were not driving more than 20 mph over the speed limit, and must complete the course at least 7 days before your arraignment date. Eligibility is confirmed at registration through the Arizona Supreme Court DDTS database.

What if my arraignment date is coming up soon?

You must complete the course at least 7 days before your arraignment date. If your arraignment is less than 7 days away, you are not eligible to register. Contact your court immediately to request an extension.

How long does the course take?

The course requires a minimum of 4 hours of instructional content as required by Arizona law. You can log in and out freely — your progress is saved automatically. Your content timer only counts instructional time, not quiz or verification time. You have at most 4.5 hours total to complete the course.

What do I need to register?

Your traffic citation, a government-issued photo ID, your court date, and a payment method. Both your citation and ID must be uploaded during registration before course access is granted.

What happens during identity verification?

Arizona law requires identity verification at multiple points during the course. You will be asked questions using your registration information. If verification fails your account is locked and you must restart the course from the beginning — there are no retests.

Will my traffic ticket be dismissed?

Yes. Upon successful completion ABC Defensive Driving electronically reports your completion to the Arizona Supreme Court Defensive Driving Tracking System (DDTS), which notifies your court. No points are added to your driving record and your court fine is waived.

What happens after I finish the course?

Your completion is electronically reported to the Arizona Supreme Court DDTS within 3 business days, which notifies your court automatically. You will also receive a completion certificate by email for your records.

Will this affect my insurance rates?

Completing the defensive driving diversion program does not automatically notify your insurance company. No points are added to your driving record, and the citation is dismissed — what you choose to share with your insurer is up to you.
